These treks are suitable for any walker looking for something a little more challenging and energetic. They are a combination of some longer and shorter walks and hill-walking experience is desirable. The duration is usually from 10 to 15 days. Following the up and down terrain of Nepal and walking to higher elevations contrasts these treks to those in the easy classification. However, you will be rewarded for your efforts with spectacular close-up views of glaciers and of the high Himalayas. Although the terrain is not difficult, some vigorous hiking experience is useful. There may be up to 6 hours a day on the trail and the elevation rises and falls from 800m/ 2624ft to 4000m/13210ft above sea level.

Shivapuri Peak Hike Tour

Shivapuri Peak is a popular hiking destination located in the Shivapuri National Park, which is a protected area situated northwest of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The peak stands at an elevation of 2,732 meters (8,963 feet) and offers stunning panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and its surrounding mountains.

The hiking trail to Shivapuri Peak is moderately difficult and takes approximately 6-7 hours to complete. The trail passes through lush forests, waterfalls, and small villages, providing hikers with a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty and culture of Nepal.

Hikers are required to obtain a permit to enter the Shivapuri National Park, which can be obtained at the park entrance. It is recommended that hikers hire a guide or join a guided tour for this trek, as the trail can be steep and difficult in some sections, and a guide can provide assistance and ensure the safety of hikers.

Shivapuri hike is 2,732 meters above sea level and offers a clean, natural environment and forest trails near Kathmandu. A hike to Shivapuri Peak (SHIVAPURI NATIONAL PARK) begins by driving to Nagi Gompa, which is 13.4 kilometers from Thamel, and walking approximately 3 hours to Shivapuri Peak (Shivapuri Baba Temple).

Shivapuri National Park covers an area of 159 km2. Nagarjun hill (Raniban) is part of the area. Dens forest contains oaks, rhododendrons, pines, moss, and a variety of grasses; it is protected by His Majesty’s Government of Nepal-Shivapuri national park. The park is home to many wild animals, including wild boars, tigers, monkeys, deer, and many different species of birds.

Shivapuri peak offers unique views of the beautiful Langtang range and Kathmandu valley city. peaks are also seen from the summit; Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang range, Dorje Lapka, Sisapangba, Mt Everest, and Annapurna range.

Due to the dangerous wild animals within the park, a day hike inside Shivapuri national park is not allowed without an experienced guide.

You will be picked up early in the morning by our guide and our private vehicle (jeep) at your hotel in Kathmandu for the day trip into and out of Shivapuri National Park. Obtain breakfast at Nagi Gompa, hike to Shivapuri peak, and return to Nagi Gompa. After enjoying the panoramic views at Shivapuri peak with your packed lunch, our guide will bring you back to Kathmandu. Approximately 6-7 hours will be needed for the trip.

Our hike begins at Budhanilkantha, which is also one of the entry points into Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Budhanilkantha is home to a Hindu pilgrimage site with a statue of Lord Vishnu reclining in a coil of snakes. Buses leave Ratna Park Bus Stop for Budhanilkantha

There is a 2.3km walk uphill in a north-easterly direction from Budhanilkantha, where the bus drops you off. One of the local tea shops along the way provides light snacks and tea. Foreigners pay approximately Rs 500 ($5 USD) to enter the national park, while Nepalese pay Rs 50 ($0.05).

Within the national park, the first few hours of the hike are spent mostly on dusty roads. Above the steep stone steps, the trail climbs northeast towards Nagi Gumba. A trail lined with trees will bring you to Nagi Gumba after walking for almost two kilometers. There are fluttering prayer flags and nuns chatting and working in the area immediately identifying the monastery. If the weather is nice, you can see the valley below with great clarity. Take a break at the monastery and have a cup of tea or coffee in the tea shop.

In the next section of the hike, there is a vertical incline to Bhagdwar and then to Shivapuri Peak. From the back of the monastery, follow the stone steps north. This trail is straightforward, but it is tiring as you have to walk mostly on stone steps. It takes approximately 900m to reach the Shivapuri peak from Nagi Gumba.
