Overview

Helambu Trekking 5 days Itinerary

Helambu Trek is a culturally and ecologically rich trek in Nepal. Helmo, Sherpa, and a few Tamang ethnic populations inhabit the Helambu region. Helambu Valley is a short hike and convenient to Kathmandu for those seeking less crowded trails and wanting to learn more about Tamang and Sherpa culture and history.

The Helambu Trek 5-day itinerary is an easy and short trek connected with Langtang Gosaikunda. Several trekking trails divide the Helambu trek, such as the Langtang Gosaikunda circuit trek from Tharepati, the Panch Pokhari camping trek trail from Sermathang, and the  Ganjala passroute from TarkeGhyang. A trek through mountain ridges and surrounding landscape villages is truly inspiring.

Helambu Trek is far more famous than any other because of its outstanding natural beauty, fascinating cultural history, Buddhist temples and architecture, Buddhist villages, Buddhist monasteries, and mountain cattle grazing on rich alpine pastures under the watchful eyes of their herders.

Further, the landscape is classic Himalayan up and down foothills up and down with a lot of dramatic rises and plummeting descents itinerary. The panoramic Himalayan views can also be seen in Gauri Shanker, Himal, Langtang, and Dorje Lakpa.

On your ascent, you’ll see stunning mountain views, as the vegetation becomes sparser and the conditions less challenging. Helambu is popular with tourists because of the basic accommodations in comparison to other regions of Nepal.

From Sundarijal, where there is a small dam and a hydroelectric power station, the Helambu trek begins. From Kathmandu, the drive takes one hour. The trek passes through dense mountain timberlands, beautiful rice fields, and various Buddhist monasteries.

Shivapuri National Park also passes through Helambu trekking trails, which cover an area of 159 km2 (61 square miles). The park contains a lot of typical vegetation, and it also protects wild animals.

Helambu trek itinerary starts with driving to Sundarijal

The first day begins with a drive of 40 minutes to Sundarijal, the starting point of the trek. We hiked up towards Chisapani, a beautiful place with panoramic views of the mountains. After an uphill trek of about five hours, we arrive in Chisapani to stay the night. On arrival in Chisapani, enjoy leisurely time around the town.

Compared to the first day, the second day is considerably easier because of the lesser amount of steep ascent and descent. Despite some uphill and downhill trails in some places on the route to Kutumsang today, the trek can be considered moderate in difficulty. Through the trail, we can see the Langtang range of mountains.

Trek to Thadepati on the third day. Overnight at Thadepati requires a six-hour trek. You will have the chance to see spectacular views and experience the beauty of trekking along this trail section. While climbing YurinDanda we can see many natural wonders and marvel at the Himalayan panorama before reaching our destination. Staying at a local lodge for the night.

Thadepati to TarkeGhyang is a wonderful way to explore the Helambu region. MelamchiGaun in the region leads us to this beautiful Sherpa village of TarkeGhyang. After arriving in TarkeGhyang, we can explore the monasteries and the village. A trip to TarkeGhyang is a fantastic way to learn about culture and spirituality. Culture and spirituality are woven together here.

Sermanthang is another culturally rich and natural wonder-filled village. The walk takes us to Sermanthang in about five hours. As we traverse the trail, we pass through a number of other Sherpa villages with incredible cultures and traditions. Before reaching Sermanthang, we walk through some forested areas. Normally, the Helambu trek takes 5 days nowadays because the bus is available from sermathang, but if you want to stay a night here then it takes you 6 days.

Note: Helambu Trek is also known for its apple plantations. Delicious and juicy fruit grows on the sunny, cold land that is ideal for growing coffee and apple trees.
