overview of the Island peak

Island Peak, known locally as Imja Tse, is a spectacular peak among the giants of the Himalayas. A beautiful mountain in the Chukkung Valley. This mountain is surrounded on both sides by the magnificent Lhotse/Nuptse South Wall to the north and Baruntse to the south, so it looks like an island. This mountain offers amazing views and getting there is an airy ridge climb that makes the climb even more memorable. You may be able to fulfill your dream of climbing a technical 6000-meter Himalayan summit if you climb this famous mountain. Hillary and Tenzing used it as a training peak in 1953 and today, the same route they found is used. Many of the skills necessary to climb Everest – including crossing crevasses with ladders and using ropes on fixed lines – still apply to Island Peak.

A SUMMARIZED ITINERARY FOR ISLAND PEAK

Island Peak expeditions last at least 19 days. We recommend allowing extra time for possible flight delays when entering and leaving the mountains. It allows for excellent acclimatization as the Khumbu valley three passes are gradually climbed, and a climb to Chukhung Ri (5550m) will provide the most spectacular views of Lhotse’s south wall. In addition, there is the option (see cost tab) of adding on an adventure up the Kongma La pass for classic views of Khumbu Glacier and an ascent of Pokalde (5806m).
