Our 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek begins from Pokhara. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Jhinu Danda in a local jeep. Along the drive, you’ll enjoy views of lush green hills and the shimmering silver peaks of the Annapurna range.

Best Time for the ABC Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek can be done throughout the year, making it one of the most flexible trekking routes in Nepal. However, the best time to enjoy this short 5-day trek is during the spring season from March to June and the autumn season from September to December. These months offer the most stable weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking conditions.

In spring, the trail is filled with blooming rhododendron forests, green hills, and mild temperatures. This season is perfect for trekkers who enjoy colorful landscapes and pleasant daytime weather. The views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Annapurna I are usually very clear during spring mornings.

Autumn is another ideal season for the ABC Trek. After the monsoon rains, the skies become crystal clear, the air is fresh, and the mountain scenery is at its best. The temperatures are comfortable, and the dry weather makes trekking easier and safer. Autumn is also the most popular trekking season in Nepal because of its reliable weather and excellent visibility.

Although the trek is possible in winter and monsoon, these seasons are less favorable. Winter can bring snow and colder temperatures, especially near Annapurna Base Camp, while the monsoon season brings rain, muddy trails, and limited mountain views. If you have more time, you can extend your hike from Ghorepani Poon Hill to the ABC trek for 10 days.

Hinku Cave Waterfall (Deurali–MBC section)

    • The stretch between Deurali and MBC features beautiful glacier-fed waterfalls, including one near Hinku Cave, which is a popular resting and meditation spot.

    • These waterfalls mark the shift from the forest to alpine landscapes, creating a mystical atmosphere with roaring water, mossy rocks, and mist.

    • During the monsoon, the waterfalls become dramatic and thunderous, adding a sense of raw Himalayan power.

Cultural note:

    • Local people consider the waters flowing from Annapurna glaciers to be sacred, often using them for purification rituals during special mountain pujas (ceremonies).

Annapurna Sanctuary Temple (Small shrine at ABC)

  • There’s a small shrine or stone temple dedicated to Annapurna and the mountain gods right near the base camp.

  • In Hindu mythology, Annapurna is a manifestation of the goddess Parvati, who is believed to sustain life through nourishment.

The meals are usually simple and hearty and designed to provide the necessary energy for the trek. Typical meals include rice, noodles, pasta, bread, vegetables, lentils, eggs, and sometimes meat (chicken or yak) dishes. You can also find a range of beverages, including tea, coffee, and soft drinks.

Since the remote location can limit ingredient availability, the menu options might not be as extensive as in urban areas. However, the teahouses are accustomed to serving trekkers and do their best to provide satisfying meals.

Accommodations along the 5-day Annapurna Base Camp short trek are mostly teahouses, basic lodges that offer rooms for trekkers to stay overnight. These teahouses provide simple accommodation with basic amenities. The rooms usually have twin beds and blankets. In some teahouses, you might find shared bathrooms, while in others.

Teahouses sometimes become crowded during peak trekking seasons, such as spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). We recommend arriving at your destination early to secure a room, especially if you have a specific teahouse in mind.

Flora and Fauna

The 5-day Annapurna Base Camp short Trek, also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, is a popular trekking route in Nepal that showcases diverse flora and fauna. Here is a brief overview of the flora and fauna that you may encounter during your trek:

  • Bamboo: Bamboo forests are a common sight on the lower elevations of the ABC trekking route.
  • Oak: Oak forests can be found in the middle elevations of the trekking route.
  • Pine: Pine forests are common in the higher elevations of the trekking route.
  • Juniper: Juniper trees can be found at higher altitudes.

Fauna:

5-day Annapurna Base Camp: South vs North Trekking Experiences

There are two prominent Annapurna base camps, each offering a unique trekking experience. The Annapurna South Base Camp is the most popular and frequently visited one. It features a well-established trekking route with numerous amenities for trekkers, including a guesthouse and a teahouse. The trail offers stunning views of the Annapurna massif and is a favorite among trekkers due to its accessibility and beautiful scenery.

In contrast, the Annapurna North Base Camp is located on the other side of the massif and is less frequented by tourists. The trek to the North Base Camp is more challenging and remote, providing a more secluded and adventurous experience. Trekkers can explore less-traveled paths and enjoy the pristine beauty of the region, away from the crowds typically found on the southern side. For the same timeframe, trek one can also choose the 5-day Langtang valley trek, and the Mardi Himal Trek, which can also be connected to ABC.
