Since the terrain can be hard and the days long, hikers on these treks should be in good physical condition and have some previous mountain walking experience. Steep climbing may be involved, although it is never necessary to use ropes. Treks at this level can he arranged for periods of 16 to 21 days. Typically, a gradual ascent through a green river valley will lead you up to a number of high passes, where you will reach the altitude of 5416m. Often times, you will get a close insight into the Tibetan culture. Participants should expect to trek above 5416m/17872ft.

Overview

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Kanchenjunga trek is one of the Wilderness and unspoiled trekking trails in the north-east part of Nepal. This trail is only the trekking trail that leads to the Base camp of Third highest mountains of the world. Kanchenjunga circuit trek lies in a remote area of Taplejung.

Kanchenjunga can translate as “Five treasure of the Great snow”. This route was first opened in 1988 for the foreigners to trek in this region. Mt. Kanchenjunga Himal is regarded as the third highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8586m. And there is Kanchenjunga conservation area too which established in 1997 covering the land of 2,035 km2. Until 1852 Kanchenjunga trek was assumed to be the highest mountains in the world and on may 25, 1849 two climbers summit to the Kanchenjunga top by Joe Brown and George Band from British expedition.

In the past time, there was only the camping or organised trek to go to the Kanchenjunga trail, but at present, there are tea houses and lodges where you can to teahouse trek and Homestay can be done. If you prefer to do the tea house trek, then you have to be flexible in eating because you don’t find food like in western style. Dal Bhat (plain rice and lentils soup) is the food that you get mostly.

In this region you can find local people with the different ethnic group of Rai, Sherpa having different traditional cultures and different languages with their mother tongue.

The Kanchenjunga-tea house trek offers a variety of scenery, beautiful Himalayans Views, gains higher mountain, gorgeous Panorama views of Kanchenjunga Himal, Bokta peak and Makalu Himal. When you do Kanchenjunga Circuit trek you hike through terraced fields, picturesque villages, green forests, enters into a ridge line of Rhododendron forest, Chauki and Gupha Pokhari. Gupha Pokhari is the most beautiful rhododendron blooming place in the spring season. Some trekkers explore seven-night eight days Rhododendron trek starting from Basantapur and ending in Taplejung.

  • Day 02: Taplejung to Chirwa 1,250 m 6-7 hour hike overnight at Lodge
  • Day 03: Chirwa to Sukethum Japantar 1500 m 5-6 hour hike overnight at Lodge
  • Day 04: Sukhethum, Japantar to Aamjilasa 2,400 m 4-5 hour hike overnight at Lodge
  • Day 05: Aamjilasa to Gyabla 2,750 m 5-6 hour hike overnight at Lodge
