The Khopra Danda Trek offers a magnificent, eco-friendly nature alternative trek between Annapurna Base Camp and the Jomsom-Muktinath Trek trail. Khopra Danda trekking is a newly opened trek by Mahabir Poon, and is also known as the Khopra Ridge trek. Khopra Ridge offers breathtaking views of Mt Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, and Dhampus Peak, as well as one of the most spectacular valleys on the Kali Gandaki River can be seen from this trek. Khayer Barahi Temple or Khayer Lake, Narchyang village, Tatopani, and Ghandruk village are the major attractions of this trek.

The Khopra Danda trek itinerary usually takes 9-12 days, depending on the route and starting point. The trek begins from Nayapul and passes through several traditional Gurung and Magar villages, forests, and rhododendron forests. One of the attractions of the trek is visiting Khayer Lake, a high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

Day excursion from Khopra Danda to Khayer Lake

Khayer Lake is one of the sacred lakes that lie behind Annapurna II. Khayer Lake is a memorable adventure day trip from the Khopra Danda trek. Kayaker Lake is (4500 meters) above sea level, one of the most scenic, blue-colored lakes at the foot of Annapurna South, and is the main attraction of this trek. When hiking to Khayer Lake from Khopradanda, the journey required a six to seven-hour hike, up and down, and bringing a packed lunch and water.

The Khopra Ridge Hotel is the starting point of the Khayer Lake day hike, which is quite challenging. You will pass waterfalls, snowlands, and drylands on your way to Holy Khayer Lake. The lake is surrounded by peaks and glaciers, with a small temple dedicated to Khayer Barahai at Khayer Lake. There are pilgrimage activities there for the Magar and Hindu communities. During the Janai Purnima, many Hindu devotees come here to receive blessings. In your journey, you can see shepherds in the brown and barren landscape. Shepherds also sacrifice sheep at the Baraha Temple.
