This four-day trek, with Khumai Danda at 3,245 meters, is close to Pokhara City and offers a paradise for nature enthusiasts seeking a nature trek. With picturesque trails, cultural encounters, and awe-inspiring scenery, the trek promises an unforgettable journey through Pokhara, Nepal. Additionally, local hospitality and rich traditions offer a deep Nepali culture, enhancing the adventure.
Begin your Khumai Danda trek from the vibrant atmosphere of Pokhara Lakeside, where you’ll be greeted by awe-inspiring vistas of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain ranges. Your journey to Khumai Danda via Lachok Ghachok village leads you along a lesser-traveled path adorned with unspoiled beauty, just waiting to be explored.
Nepal has earned its reputation as a renowned trekking destination, offering an abundance of options for both long and short treks, all heading into breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Many popular treks in Nepal require strong physical fitness and involve long days of walking. In contrast, the Khumai Danda Trek is a shorter and easier trek that can be completed within a week. This makes it a great choice for trekkers with limited time or those looking for a less demanding adventure.
Among Nepal’s emerging short trekking routes, the Khumai Danda Trek is gradually gaining popularity. Located in the foothills of the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), the trail offers stunning mountain scenery, peaceful forests, and authentic village experiences. Unlike busier routes such as Poon Hill and Mardi Himal, Khumai Danda remains relatively untouched and uncrowded, providing a more tranquil Himalayan trekking experience.
As you navigate the Khumai Danda trekking trail, you will pass through lush forests, charming villages, and terraced farmlands, providing a glimpse into the authentic rural lifestyle of the Nepalese people. Friendly locals will welcome you with warm smiles and genuine hospitality, sharing their rich traditions, fresh cuisine, and unique way of life. Immerse yourself in their culture, forge connections, and gain a deeper appreciation for Nepal’s cultural tapestry.
The Khumai Danda trek itinerary gradually ascends, unveiling breathtaking panoramas of snow-capped peaks, spring waterfalls, and verdant valleys. Capture the awe-inspiring views of the Annapurna range, with magnificent peaks like Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal gracing the skyline. Marvel at the interplay of light and shadow on the mountains, an enchanting spectacle that will leave you in awe of nature’s raw beauty.
Tea houses along the trail allow you to embrace the tranquility of your surroundings. These tea houses provide a warm respite from the Khumai Danda trek. As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over the rugged landscape, and the starry sky emerges, you will find yourself captivated by the serenity of the wilderness. Gather around the campfire, share stories and laughter, and create cherished memories with fellow adventurers who share your passion for exploration.
The Khumai Danda Trek is suitable for trekkers with moderate fitness levels. The trail follows well-marked paths with gradual ascents, making the journey enjoyable and accessible. Our experienced guides ensure your safety while sharing insights about the region’s nature, wildlife, and local culture.
One of the trek’s main highlights is reaching Khumai Danda. From this scenic viewpoint, enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, along with sweeping views of the Pokhara Valley. The peaceful mountain scenery makes it a memorable experience.
The hike from Khumai to Korchan takes about 2–3 hours and is the most challenging section of the trek. The trail becomes steeper and more rugged as you climb to Korchan at 3,700 meters. The effort is rewarded with spectacular sunrise and mountain views.
As you descend through Lachok and Ghachok villages, you’ll carry unforgettable memories of the trek. The stunning landscapes, cultural encounters, and sense of accomplishment make the Khumai Danda Trek a truly rewarding Himalayan adventure.
While the Khumai Danda Trek is mainly a nature-focused journey, it also offers a chance to experience local culture. As you pass through the traditional villages of Lachok and Ghachok, you will meet friendly locals and learn about their mountain lifestyle. Enjoy traditional cuisine, observe local customs, and discover cultural traditions preserved for generations. These meaningful encounters provide valuable insight into the lives of the resilient communities who call this beautiful region home.
The Khumai Danda hike, reminiscent of any Himalayan adventure, presents its unique challenges. Expect steep ascents, narrow paths, and ever-changing weather conditions along the trail. Yet, the rewards are boundless. Upon reaching the Korchan ridge and witnessing the breathtaking panorama of snow-capped peaks piercing through the clouds, you will experience a profound sense of accomplishment and serenity. This trek serves as a journey to discover your boundaries, fortify your resilience, and embrace the beauty beyond your comfort zone.
To undertake the Khumai Danda Trek, trekkers need to be physically fit. It is recommended to run for at least an hour a day for 10 to 15 days or a month, depending on your fitness level, before the trek. This helps to build the individual’s hiking stamina. This preparation helps in acclimatizing to the high altitudes and ensures you are ready for the demanding terrain of the trek. What’s crucial is a willingness to prepare physically and mentally, and to respect the demands of the environment. Proper acclimatization ensures trekkers can fully enjoy the journey, absorbing the breathtaking landscapes and immersing themselves in the local culture. Ensure that you bring the recommended trekking equipment list. Remember, quality trekking equipment can make your trip enjoyable, while poor-quality equipment can make it miserable.
The Khumai Danda Trek can be completed throughout most of the year, but the best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, the weather is generally stable, the skies are clear, and the mountain views are at their finest.
Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit Khumai Danda. The forests along the trail come alive with blooming rhododendrons and other wildflowers. Temperatures are comfortable for walking, and the views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Lamjung Himal are often crystal clear.
Daytime temperatures usually range between 10°C and 20°C, while nights can be cooler at higher elevations.
Autumn is considered the peak trekking season in Nepal. After the monsoon rains, the air becomes fresh and clean, creating excellent visibility. The weather remains dry and stable, making it ideal for trekking and photography.
The mountain views are spectacular, and the temperatures are comfortable throughout the journey.
Winter offers peaceful trails and beautiful mountain scenery. While the days are generally pleasant, mornings and nights can be cold, especially at Khumai Danda and Korchan Danda. Trekkers should bring warm clothing if visiting during this season.
The monsoon brings frequent rainfall, slippery trails, and occasional leeches in forested areas. Mountain views may be hidden by clouds. Although the hills become lush and green, this is generally the least recommended season for the trek.
Top Note: For the best mountain views, comfortable temperatures, and stable weather conditions, plan your Khumai Danda Trek between March and May or September and November.
The Khumai Danda Trek is considered a moderate trek. It is easier than many famous Himalayan treks, such as Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, or the Annapurna Circuit.
The trail follows forests, ridgelines, traditional villages, and open grasslands. Most of the route involves gradual ascents and descents. However, some sections can be steep, especially the hike from Khumai Danda to Korchan Danda.

Khumai Danda is located north of Pokhara in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trek passes through the traditional villages of Ghachok and Hile Kharka before reaching Khumai Danda and Korchan Danda.
The Khumai Danda Trek is considered a moderate trek. It is suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. The climb from Khumai Danda to Korchan Danda is the most challenging section due to its steep ascent.
The trek typically takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the itinerary and starting point.
The highest point is Korchan Danda (3,700 m / 12,139 ft), which offers spectacular sunrise and mountain views.
Trekkers can enjoy views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Lamjung Himal, and Dhaulagiri on clear days.
The best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is stable and mountain views are at their best.
While the trail is relatively straightforward, hiring a guide is recommended for navigation, safety, and a richer cultural experience.
Yes. Trekkers generally need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). Permit requirements may change, so it is advisable to check before trekking.
Yes, basic tea houses and community lodges are available in villages such as Ghachok, Hile Kharka, and Khumai Danda. Facilities are simple but comfortable.
Yes. The trek is suitable for beginners and families who have a basic level of fitness and enjoy walking in the mountains.
The risk is relatively low because the highest point is only 3,700 meters. However, trekkers should walk at a comfortable pace and stay well hydrated.
Bring sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, a hat, gloves, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a small backpack. Temperatures can be cold in the mornings and evenings.
The trek offers stunning views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range, fewer crowds, authentic village experiences, and easy access from Pokhara, making it an excellent off-the-beaten-path trekking destination.
