Lukla to Namche Bazaar distance

The journey from Lukla to Namche Bazaar is a quintessential segment of the Everest Base Camp trek, renowned for its breathtaking scenery, vibrant Sherpa culture, and challenging trails. Starting from Lukla, often termed the gateway to Everest, trekkers follow a path filled with stunning landscapes and cultural encounters, leading them to Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Khumbu region.

The distance from Lukla to Namche Bazaar is 13.5 km. Although this may seem short, the trek typically takes two days with an overnight stay. The reason for this is the high altitude of Lukla, which is at 2,800 meters. Upon arrival from Kathmandu, your body needs time to adjust to the altitude.

When trekking in high-altitude areas, it’s crucial to hike slowly and allow your body to acclimatize to the altitude. There is an option to descend from Namche to Lukla in one day after reaching Everest Base Camp. However, it’s advisable to spend a night in Phakding before continuing to Namche Bazaar the next day to begin your trek.
