The Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake trek offers breathtaking views of the world’s highest mountains, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. The trek features diverse landscapes and six stunning glacial lakes with waters surrounded by snow-capped peaks. You will also see one of Nepal’s largest glaciers, Ngozumpa Glacier. Passing through traditional Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar and Khumjung provides a glimpse into the rich Sherpa culture. The colorful prayer flags, mani stones, and ancient monasteries add cultural depth to the natural beauty. The trekkers have to do the Chola pass (5420m) between Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp during the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake trek.
There are three outstanding photographic spots during your Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake trek in Nepal: Gokyo Ri Peak (5,357 m), Kala Patthar (5,643 m), and Tengboche Monastery (3,860 m). Each offers beautiful views of the Himalayas from different angles. Everest Base Camp is also one of the most famous attractions of the trek.
The Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake trek itinerary begins with a flight to Lukla Hillary Airport at an altitude of 2,837 meters. Furthermore, on the same day, we trek three hours to Phakding. We will trek to Namche Bazaar on the second day. A small but beautiful Sherpa village, “Namche,” rises 3,440 meters above sea level. Afterwards, we will trek to Tengboche, the famous Guru Rimpoche monastery of the valley. In addition, this trek shows the Tibetan-style Gompa, the Tengboche monastery, which opens at 3 p.m. for prayer time (puja). The next day, we trek to Pheriche, Lobuche, and EBC.
During the 15 days of the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake trek, we will climb Kalapatthar Peak, 5,643 meters above sea level, and trek back to Zhong la. On day 10, we will climb the Gokyo Peak, which is 5,420 m. Afterward, we will go to Dole and Khumjung. Last but not least, after reaching Phakding and then Lukla, we will fly back to Kathmandu. There is also an old route which is called the classical Jiri to Everest base camp trek, which was used on the Everest expedition team in the early Hilary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.

Take an early morning scenic flight from Kathmandu or Ramechhap to Lukla, one of the world’s most dramatic mountain airports. Follow a scenic ridge trail with spectacular mountain views before descending to Phunki Tenga. Descend through rhododendron forests to Debuche and cross the Imja Khola. Pass through Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa villages, before ascending to Dingboche. Spend another important acclimatization day at high altitude. A recommended hike is to Nagarjun Hill (about 5,000 m), which rewards you with panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu. Overnight stay at the same lodge in Dingboche.
The trail gradually ascends through alpine meadows to Dughla, followed by a climb to the memorial site dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Continue along the glacial moraine to Lobuche, a small settlement surrounded by towering peaks. Overnight stay at a lodge in Lobuche.
Follow the rocky trail to Gorakshep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. After lunch, continue to Everest Base Camp, where you can stand at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall and absorb the atmosphere of this legendary mountaineering site. Return to Gorakshep for overnight stay at a lodge.
Wake early for the ascent to Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint for sunrise over Mount Everest and surrounding giants. After breakfast at Gorakshep, descend to Lobuche and continue to the quiet settlement of Dzongla. Overnight stay at a lodge in Dzongla.
Today is one of the most exciting days of the trek. Cross the glacier-covered Cho La Pass, which connects the Everest Base Camp trail with the Gokyo Valley. After descending to Thangnak, continue across the Ngozumpa Glacier to the beautiful lakeside village of Gokyo. Overnight stay at a lodge in Gokyo.
Ascend Gokyo Ri early in the morning for one of the finest panoramic viewpoints in Nepal, with views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After breakfast, descend through the Gokyo Valley to Dole. Overnight stay at a lodge in Dole.
Continue descending through rhododendron forests and yak pastures via Mong La and Sanasa before reaching Khumjung, a picturesque Sherpa village known for the Hillary School and ancient monastery. Overnight stay at a lodge in Khumjung.
Descend to Namche Bazaar and continue through Monjo and Jorsalle to Phakding. The lower altitude and lush forests provide a refreshing contrast to the high alpine terrain. Overnight stay at a lodge in Phakding.
Follow the Dudh Koshi River upstream on your final trekking day. Arrive in Lukla by early afternoon and celebrate the completion of your adventure with your trekking crew. Overnight stay at a lodge in Lukla.
Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu or Ramechhap, depending on flight schedules. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. End of the Everest Base Camp, Cho La Pass, and Gokyo Lake Trek.
